Three weeks ago I decided to stop breastfeeding Zach to sleep twice a day so that he could sleep train as he had already done at night. See this post and this one if you’ve missed them!
It hasn’t been easy. UNDERSTATEMENT!
The first two weeks were pretty much a write off. Sometimes he ended up sleeping for about 30 minutes in the pushchair whilst on the school run. There were days when he didn’t sleep at all. Other times he would fall asleep in my arms, too exhausted to stay awake another second.
I cannot describe how awful it was listening to him cry in his cot and how much I hated myself for putting him through it.
But this week it has worked. I am typing this and he is asleep in his cot upstairs and has been for the last half an hour after only 5 minutes of grumbling.
Zach definitely takes after Anya and doesn’t sleep for longer than 30 minutes but he now goes down with very little fuss which is a relief 🙂
It had an awful effect on his night time sleep too 🙁 He had a major meltdown about being put in his cot at all and would wake several times in the night. Now thankfully, he has gone back to 2 quick 5 minute feeds, one at 10pm and the other at midnight. Then he is fast asleep until 6.30-7am 🙂
He is now back to being the happy little boy that he was before. And that smile makes it all worthwhile…
